The new Volkswagen spinoff bought the iconic brand name and plans to start producing up to 200,000 electric SUVs and pickups a year beginning in 2026 at a 1,600-acre site just north of Columbia. It's a $2 billion investment expected to create 4,000 jobs.
Albemarle Corporation
The global specialty chemicals giant will build a processing plant to produce up to 100,000 metric tons a year of recycled lithium hydroxide for EV batteries. The 800-acre site in Chester County represents a $1.3 billion investment expected to create 300 new jobs.
Cirba Solutions
The battery management and materials company is investing more than $300 million in a 400,000-square-foot facility in Columbia. The lithium-ion recycling operation will employ about 300 people and provide enough battery-grade metal salts to power more than 500,000 EV batteries a year.
